Lucknow Languages
In the map of India, Lucknow is famous for its Pehle Aap or after you culture. The polished behaviour of the people is reflected in their polite manner of speaking and refined language. Lucknowites are known for being ignorant about harsh and abusive language. The languages in the City of Adab vary from one region to another. The Hindi language is most commonly used in Lucknow but it is Urdu language which is the most important lingua franca of the city. Urdu is an ancient language used extensively in Lucknow and known as Lucknowi Urdu. Lucknowi Urdu which flourished under the patronage of the Nawabs, is the language of poets and writers. Urdu is also the official language of the ‘City Of Tehzeeb’.
Other popular languages that are commonly used are Braj, Awadhi, Koshali, Bhojpuri and Koeli. These languages are two thousand years old. English is mostly the language of the younger generation.
